Bruce Springsteen criticizes ‘normal thing’ after Liam Payne’s tragic death in Buenos Aires

Bruce Springsteen said the music industry was putting “enormous pressure on young people” following the death of Liam Payne in Argentina.

Payne died on Wednesday at the age of 31 after falling from the third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires. Speaking to the Telegraph, Springsteen said: “It’s not an unusual thing in my business.

“This is a normal thing. It is a business that puts enormous pressure on young people. Young people do not yet have the inner ability or inner self to protect themselves from many of the things that come with success and fame.

“So they get lost in a lot of the difficult and often pain-inducing (things) … whether it’s drugs or alcohol to relieve some of that pressure.”

He added that he understands this “very well” from his own experience, having fought “his own battles with different things.” Springsteen described his depression in the memoir “Born To Run,” saying he was “close to the edge.”

Payne had been open about his sobriety, revealing he had been going through a mental health crisis in 2019 while speaking to Ant Middleton on his show Straight Talking. He said he was “pretty lucky to still be here” and added: “There are times when you have this level of loneliness every day and people reaching out to you from time to time… you wondering, ‘When will this end?’ …”That almost killed me a few times.”

Argentine prosecutors said the investigation into Payne’s downfall was so far “inconclusive.” He died from multiple traumas and “internal and external bleeding,” an autopsy revealed.
