Detention center officer arrested for sexual misconduct with inmate in Georgetown County

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCIV) — Sheriff Carter Weaver announced that a Georgetown County Detention Center officer was arrested and fired after being accused of having sexual relations with an inmate.

Officer Peter Sawyer is accused of sexual misconduct and misconduct in office. The charges follow an investigation conducted by the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and the state Department of Law Enforcement.

Sawyer was booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center and then transferred to a regional detention center where he awaits a bond hearing.
