Illinois state trooper dies in car crash in Champaign County

CHAMPAIGN (25News Now) – An Illinois State Police trooper was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Champaign County on Friday.

The soldier is identified as Corey S. Thompsen. According to a news release, he was 28 years old and had worked for the state police for nearly five years.

The accident occurred around 3:40 p.m. while Trooper Thompsen was on duty. State police said the details of the crash remain under investigation.

Officer Thompsen was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 4:30 p.m

State Police Director Brendan F. Kelly issued the following statement:

“It is with a heavy heart and immense sadness that I inform you of the passing of Trooper Corey S. Thompsen. We ask the public to give Trooper Thompsen’s family and his ISP family time as we grieve and process this tragedy.”

Trooper Thompsen is survived by his wife, mother and father.
