DC police investigating Chinatown attack as possible hate crime – NBC4 Washington

A weekend trip to D.C. took a frightening turn for a Boston woman, and police have launched an investigation into possible hate crimes.

Roulin Wu said she was walking with a friend in Chinatown last Saturday morning when, without provocation, a stranger hit her in the head with a grill and told her to “go back to China.”

“Immediately after the incident, I think I cried for an hour,” Wu said.

“Mentally, I needed some time to recover,” she said.

Wu said she held on to a selfie stick for the rest of her trip in case she needed to defend herself.

“I actually thought about the fact that I need to write a will so that my parents get my money when I die,” she said.

D.C. police said they are investigating whether the attack may have been motivated by hate or bias.
