Woman charged in downtown Milwaukee shooting of George Webb

A woman is charged with attempted murder following a fight and shooting at a downtown Milwaukee restaurant on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Prosecutors said 25-year-old Dinena Campbell of Wauwatosa became upset about how long her meal was taking and that sparked a chain of violent events at a George Webb restaurant.

Police were called to the scene on King Drive near Wells Street around 2:25 a.m. that morning and spoke to several witnesses. According to a criminal complaint, an employee told officers that a man and a woman – later identified as Campbell – came in and ordered food.

Prosecutors said Campbell became upset at how long the meal was taking and began arguing with an employee and throwing objects at him. This employee began throwing things back at Campbell. Finally, a witness said Campbell tried to spit on the employee before yelling, “I’m going to get my gun and shoot you.”

A fight then broke out at the restaurant, and the complaint states that Campbell grabbed a gun from the man she was with, pointed it at the employee and fired one shot. Campbell and the man then went outside, and a witness said she then threatened to “kill” another employee.

A witness said Campbell held a gun to the employee’s head and pulled the trigger several times, prosecutors said, but the gun did not fire. Campbell then hit the employee in the head with the gun.

Campbell and the man then left the scene in a blue car, the complaint states. Officers found a shell casing inside the restaurant and a bullet striking a wall behind the restaurant’s counter.

Surveillance videos showed the sequence of events as the witnesses said, prosecutors said, and also showed the man trying to break up the fight. It turned out that a magazine fell out of the weapon “almost simultaneously,” while a shot was “clearly heard” and the victim ran away and fell.

Later that morning, officers found the car and the man who was with Campbell and stopped him. He said he was on his way to the police station to turn in his gun because it had been used in a shooting. He also told of the fight and the shooting of George Webb.

Campbell is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree premeditated murder in this case. Court records show she is being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
