In January, WWE and Netflix announced a new deal that will see WWE Raw move to Netflix starting in January 2025.

It marks the first time since the show premiered in January 1993 that WWE Raw will not be broadcast on linear cable.

Speaking at Leaders Week London (via Sports Business Journal), TKO President Mark Shapiro explained how the deal came about.

“This is just right for you” he said when asked how TKO introduced Netflix to WWE. “Why don’t you dive in? It’s not really live sports. It is scripted entertainment. It’s notional acquisition, but incredible in terms of retention because it happens every week and therefore churn is lower, at least given the WWE fans in the universe.”

WWE and Netflix are already set to introduce more programming on the platform as Nick Khan has announced a WWE behind-the-scenes series that will air on Netflix.

Shapiro previously said that WWE and Netflix would be working on “additional programming” similar to “Formula 1: Drive to Survive.”
