Moon Da-hye shows up to the police after an accident under the influence of alcohol

Moon Da-hye, the daughter of former President Moon Jae-in, who caused a drunken accident in Itaewon, Seoul, appeared at the police station on Friday, 13 days after the accident.

She appeared as a suspect at the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul at around 1:40 p.m. that day. Arriving with her lawyer in a white limousine, Moon, dressed in a black suit, got out of the car and entered the police station. When reporters asked her about her feelings, she said: “I’m sorry. I will cooperate faithfully with the investigation.”

Moon later released a separate apology statement to the media. “I made a serious mistake that should never have happened. I’ll think about it to make sure something like this never happens again. Thanks to the taxi driver who reported me, I was able to stop driving and avoid an even worse accident,” she said. I am also grateful that my apology was accepted after the accident. Many people have expressed concern and criticized me for drunk driving. I will think about myself so that something like this never happens again.

On October 5, Moon was driving near Itaewon Station in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, in a highly intoxicated state with a blood alcohol level of 0.149%, well above the driving license revocation limit. While changing lanes, she collided with a taxi following behind. After receiving a handwritten apology from Moon, the injured taxi driver agreed to a settlement and decided not to submit a medical injury report to the police. As a result, Moon is likely to be charged only with drink driving under the Road Traffic Act, excluding the more serious charge of dangerous driving causing risk of injury under the Aggravated Punishment for Certain Offenses Act.
