Shootout between roommates leaves one in the hospital

SALT LAKE CITY – A shooting between roommates in the Glendale neighborhood left a 19-year-old hospitalized and a 17-year-old in juvenile hall on Thursday.

The shooting happened around midnight Thursday near 700 West North Temple.

Salt Lake City police said the two had an argument, which led to the 17-year-old shooting his roommate. The 19-year-old suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Police said they found the suspect nearby and took him into custody after he briefly fled from officers. Salt Lake City police are calling this a domestic violence incident because the two people involved lived together.

The 17-year-old was taken to the Salt Lake County Juvenile Detention Center. He is accused of aggravated assault, use of a firearm, possession of a weapon and fleeing the police.
