Manual Cinema plays “Leonardo!” “A wonderful show about a terrible monster” at the Rozsa Center

HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) – 800 Western UP students gathered in Houghton Friday for a performance by an Emmy Award-winning collective.

Manual Cinema played “Leonardo!” “A wonderful show about a terrible monster” at the Rozsa Center. The performance is based on the books by author Mo Willems. The group creates live on-stage films, giving you the choice of looking at either the performance stage or the screen as live music plays.

“There’s no wrong way to look at this,” said Hannah Rundman Lowney, guest services manager at the Rozsa Center. “This is the largest show for school children in the region for several years. We look forward to seeing the theater full.”

Friday’s performance is part of the Rozsa Center’s Class Act series. Lowney said the series allows area students to attend performances to see something new and use their imaginations.

“We receive generous support from our Class Acts Foundation, donors and other sponsors,” Rundman Lowney continued. “And it allows students to come for just a dollar at a time.”

There will be two public performances of “Leonardo!” on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Incredible Bank will host a “Monster Mash” party between shows downtown. There will be cookies and pumpkin decorations; You are encouraged to wear a costume.

“We want to invite all families to come out tomorrow,” said Jamie Thyrion, market manager for Incredible Bank. “There is something fun for every age.”
