Still no arrests in mass shooting in Lexington, surrounding businesses stick together

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – It’s been just over two months since the mass shooting on National Avenue in Lexington that left five people injured and one person dead.

Lexington police are still investigating and following up all leads. So far there have been no arrests.

Shelby Noelscher’s family owns Zeigler Stained Glass, just a few doors down from the scene of the shooting.

“I would say the companies here and the people here are a pretty close-knit community,” says Noelscher. “We all look out for each other and help each other whenever we need it.”

Just after midnight on August 9, six people were shot and one person, 31-year-old Antoine Clay, died in the hospital, according to police. The building’s owner, who recently installed cameras, says the gunman got out of a vehicle and fired through an open garage door into a crowd of people.

Sydney says she found out what happened after receiving a call from her brother.

“He’s a firefighter with Lexington Fire. He was like, “Hey, there was a shooting on your street where the business is. So we heard about it that morning and saw it on the news later that day,” Noelscher explains.

The El Cid restaurant has since closed and the only thing left are private property signs and 24-hour video surveillance cameras.

“I say it was a little nerve-wracking at first because you never expect something like this to happen in your neighborhood, but I would say the fear and stress has kind of subsided since then. I feel pretty safe here in our community.” “I know our first responders will keep us safe and I know they’re doing everything they can to look for the person,” Noelscher said.
