Ketchum man sentenced to federal prison for sex crimes against children

BOISE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – A Ketchum man is headed to prison after being convicted of child molestation crimes.

22-year-old Sebastian Hanks will spend the next 20 years in federal prison for producing and possessing child sexual abuse material.

He must also serve 20 years of supervised release, register as a sex offender and be ordered to pay more than $38,000 in restitution.

The FBI found numerous files containing child sexual abuse material on Hanks’ electronic devices, including images he took of prepubescent children while babysitting them.

“The defendant’s crimes are difficult to comprehend and painful to describe,” said U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit. “Not only did he exploit children by obtaining horrific images of child pornography, but he also produced images of children entrusted to his care. The lengthy sentence in this case is necessary for public safety, and I am grateful to the investigators, prosecutors and victim advocates who secured justice. This case reflects our commitment to working with law enforcement in all parts of Idaho to protect our children.”
