Paragould man charged with sexual assault of child

Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – October 18, 2024 – A Paragould man was charged Friday with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old child.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a woman contacted Jonesboro police in January and reported that her child had been sexually abused several years ago by her ex-boyfriend, 32-year-old Kylann Evins.

In an interview with Jonesboro police, the victim told officers that Evins allegedly came into her bedroom at night while her mother was working. She said that when Evins thought she was sleeping, he would start touching her inappropriately and that “she was scared and acted like she was sleeping while he touched her.” She said this continued for many nights continued and only stopped when the family moved and she started sharing a room with her brother.

The mother told officers about a time when Evins was drinking heavily. Her child was sitting on Evins’ lap when he reportedly began unbuttoning her pants.

When officers interviewed Evins, he denied assaulting the child. However, when the officer brought up a report in which Evins admitted to sexually abusing his 6-year-old cousin as a teenager, Evins reportedly “put his head down and told.” [the officer] that he actually attacked her.”

When asked if he unbuttoned the victim’s pants, Evins said he remembered the incident and that he drank a lot and did so when he was drunk. He added that he could not rule out the possibility that he touched the victim inappropriately as she used to drink heavily.

Evins is charged with second-degree sexual assault. He was given a court date of November 14th at 8:30 a.m

Evins was given a temporary bond of $5,000 apiece. Court records show he walked out of jail in less than an hour. He was given a no-contact order as a condition of his bail.
