“Agatha All Along” episode 6 makes Wanda’s ending even more tragic

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is already a tragic end to Wanda’s story in its current state. The nuances and care her character received WandaVision is conspicuously absent, and she is portrayed as the absolute villain, bitter in her desire to reunite her family. After doing everything she can to find her children across the multiverse, the only logical ending this film has for her is her ending her life to defeat the evil of the Darkhold across the multiverse. But now that we know Billy survived and was so close to his mother, even for a short time, Wanda’s villainous role is even more devastating.

This episode also reveals that the Avengers took some responsibility for the curse, claiming it was a training exercise gone wrong. And yet, as far as we know, none of them even bothered to check on Wanda before Doctor Strange shows up and asks for her help. It’s no wonder the Darkhold could corrupt them so deeply. She was grieving not just one family, but two, all alone in the middle of nowhere.

It would have been one thing if Multiverse of Madness happened because Wanda placed a seal on Billy in the Hex, either intentionally or accidentally as she was still learning how witchcraft works, and then forgot about it, leading her to search for her sons across the multiverse. It’s still tragic, but at least We would know the seal was there because she was so desperate to protect her kits and hold on to the hope that they would return to her, even if they were in the process of disappearing from this world.

Lilia putting the seal on him instead means that when Wanda presumably died, she really thought her sons were lost to her forever. There was no version of Wanda in this universe that knew Billy survived, either before or after the seal. Wanda sacrificed herself in Wundagore because she felt she was no longer worthy of her love in any universe.

Lilia’s powers are still a mystery. We know that she always seems to slip back in time through her visions and sometimes becomes possessed by them, as we saw when she wrote the list of Circle members for Agatha. While we still don’t know why she was driven to mark Billy with the seal, it adds a whole new layer to his story.
