Bail set for mother and boyfriend of dead Two Rivers toddler

MANITOWOC – A day after new charges were filed against the couple, bail has been set for the Two Rivers mother and her boyfriend’s dead toddler.

Bail for Jesse Vang was set at $500,000; He is charged with multiple charges in connection with Elijah Vue’s death, including physical abuse of a child resulting in death, which carries a mandatory life sentence if convicted.

Bail for Vue’s mother, Katrina Baur, was set at $400,000. If convicted of chronic neglect of a child (the consequence is death), she could face up to 60 years in prison.

Vue was last seen in Vang’s custody in February 2024. He was officially reported missing on February 20th. Vue’s remains were found on September 13 of this year in a wooded area not far from Two Rivers.

According to the criminal complaint released Thursday, Baur sent Vang messages after 10:59 a.m. on Feb. 20, the day Vue was reported missing. Investigators say during an interview between Vang and law enforcement, while Baur was on speakerphone, Baur told Vang: “Stop,” “Don’t say too much,” “No,” “Stop,” “You let him,” ” Psst” and “Lawyer.” K”.

Additionally, Baur wrote a message on Facebook on February 20, the day Vang called 911 to report Vue missing. Messages that were deleted but recovered by law enforcement included: “Say you took a nap and left” and “Say this is your boys’ normal sleep schedule and he’s never opened the door.” “Don’t say anything about parental controls.”

“This is an incredibly tragic situation that has shocked our community,” Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre said Thursday. “Elijah was a young boy whose life was tragically cut short, and his death impacts not only his loved ones, but also the Two Rivers Police Department, the Sheriff’s Office, our partners at the FBI and the Department of Justice, and the Criminal Investigation Department.”

Both Baur and Vang will make their first court appearance in Manitowoc County on Monday afternoon.
