Cheryl has shared a heartfelt tribute to her former partner Liam Payne after he passed away in Argentina aged 31.

Police in Buenos Aires, Argentina, confirmed that the former One Direction singer died on October 16 after falling from the balcony of his hotel in the Argentine capital.

A preliminary autopsy later revealed that Payne had died from “internal and external bleeding” as a result of injuries sustained in the fall.

His ex-girlfriend Cheryl has since shared a tribute to the singer, with whom she has a seven-year-old son.

The “Fight for this Love” singer shared her tribute on Instagram with a photo of Payne with her son Bear as a toddler and urged fans not to share speculation about the singer’s death.

“As I try to come to terms with this earth-shattering event, I would like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being,” she began.

“Liam was not just a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7-year-old son. A son who now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again.” .

“What concerns me most is the fact that Bear will one day have access to the vile reports and media exploitation we have seen over the last two days. It breaks my heart even more that I won’t be able to protect him from this in the future.”

“I ask you to consider what benefit some of these reports have, other than causing further harm to those left behind to pick up the pieces. Before you leave comments or make videos, ask yourself whether you want a child or family of your own to cycle them.

“Please give Liam what little dignity he has left after his death so he can finally rest in peace.”

“Thank you very much,

“Cheryl.”

The pair were first introduced in an ITV singing series X factor, where he first auditioned as a teenager before joining the boy band One Direction and becoming romantically involved in February 2016.

In 2017, the couple welcomed their only child together, a son named Bear Gray Payne.

Payne remained an active presence in Bear’s life after he and Cheryl split, with the singer referring to Bear as his “mini-me” in his final public comments about his son.

Cheryl’s statement follows tributes from Payne’s former One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Horan, as well as a contribution from X Factor boss and former 1D manager Simon Cowell and his current partner Kate Cassidy.

Payne’s family also released a statement following his death, saying: “We are heartbroken. Liam will live on forever in our hearts and we will remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul.”
