Waterbury police arrest felon after shots are fired and recover loaded firearm

WATERBURY – Officers with the Waterbury Police Department arrested a suspect early Thursday after reports of shots fired outside a residence on Baldwin Street.

Around 2 a.m. on Oct. 17, police were dispatched to 1211 Baldwin Street after receiving calls about shots fired.

Upon arrival, they found evidence of gunfire and began searching for the suspect.

Devon Abney, 32, a convicted felon, was arrested after a short chase.

Officers recovered a loaded firearm believed to be the weapon used in the incident.

Investigations indicate that an argument near the house led to an exchange of gunfire in which a bullet struck a window of an occupied bedroom.

No injuries were reported.

Abney, who is prohibited from owning firearms due to prior firearms and narcotics-related convictions, now faces charges that include illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a pistol/revolver and first-degree reckless endangerment.
