Trump blames Ukrainian politician Zelensky for starting the war with Russia

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Donald Trump on Thursday accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of helping start that nation’s war with Russia, a comment that further suggests Trump is likely to reduce U.S. support for Ukraine, if he wins the election on November 5th. The Republican former president frequently criticized Zelensky during the campaign, repeatedly calling him “the world’s biggest salesman” for soliciting and receiving billions of dollars in U.S. military aid since Russia’s all-out invasion of its neighbor in 2022, which was revealed as recently as April Elected in 2019, more than five years after Russia captured Crimea in its first invasion in 2014, while its proxy forces took over much of the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.
