On October 17thTh2024 at 12:15 p.m. SPD responded to the area of ​​400 East Spokane Falls Boulevard for a report of an assault. A caller told 911 that she had just been attacked by an unknown man. When officers arrived at the scene, they contacted the victim, who was already being treated by doctors.

The victim reported that as she walked to her vehicle, she observed a man wearing a fluorescent jacket in a parking lot. She believed that this person was some worker. As she walked past the man, he made eye contact with her, smiling. As the victim was putting items into her vehicle, the man came up behind her and grabbed her. She was then spun around as the suspect put his hands around her neck and attempted to push her to the ground while squeezing her throat.

The victim bravely fought back, scratching and clawing at his face before biting his hand, which was near her mouth. The suspect then fled the area on foot. As he ran away, he left items on the ground that contained his information, as well as some of the clothing he was wearing. After collecting evidence at the scene and interviewing several witnesses, officers responded to the area of ​​500 East Everett Avenue. The suspect was arrested as he left an apartment less than 90 minutes after the attack.

Michael J. Trout, 27, was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for two yearsnd Final attack. Trout has a felony conviction for two yearsnd degree bodily harm (strangulation) and 2nd Degree: Driving a motor vehicle without permission. Multiple agencies were involved in the investigation, including Park Rangers and WSU Security.
