According to police, a speeding car splashes into the Chagrin River at the Eastlake restaurant

EASTLAKE, Ohio (WOIO) – A car driving recklessly through Willowick and Eastlake crashed through a guardrail and plunged into the Chagrin River, Eastlake police confirmed.

EPD said Willowick police alerted them to a speeding car driving recklessly eastbound on Lakeshore Boulevard into the city.

According to EPD, Willowick police did not pursue the car.

When Eastlake Police arrived in the area, officers received reports of a car entering the Chagrin River.

The car drove off the west bank into the parking lot of Trader Jack’s Riverside Grille at 35901 Lakeshore Blvd. into the river, EPD said.

EPD said it appears the car crashed through a guardrail at a high rate of speed and hit the east side of the river.

According to EPD, witnesses told officers that a man got out of the car, climbed out of the river and ran away.

EPD confirmed that a 22-year-old man was arrested after a short chase.

He was taken to University Hospital Lake West Medical Center with minor injuries, EPD said.

EPD said the incident remains under investigation and charges will be filed.
