NYC cops arrest woman wanted for attempted child abduction on 180th Street

NEW YORK – A 32-year-old Bronx woman was arrested in connection with a kidnapping attempt that took place in the East Tremont neighborhood earlier this week, police said. Darlyn Thomas, of 988 East 180th Street, was charged with attempted second-degree kidnapping.

According to the New York City Police Department, the incident occurred Tuesday around 6:50 p.m. in a laundry room in Thomas’ apartment building. Authorities reported that an unknown person followed a 23-year-old woman and her 2-year-old child into the laundry room before grabbing the victim’s arm and demanding the child.

The mother was able to free herself and she and the child remained unharmed. The suspect fled the scene and used the elevator to get to the 12th floor, police said.

After the incident, the NYPD sought public assistance in locating the suspect, which led to Thomas’ arrest. No injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing.
