Mayo police searching for suspect after alleged home invasion and sexual assault

RCMP in Mayo, Yukon say they are still searching for a suspect after a woman intentionally crashed her car into a light pole to escape a man who allegedly sexually assaulted her earlier in the evening.

In a news release, police say the man knocked on the door of the woman’s home, then allegedly forced his way into the home and attacked her. He then demanded that she drive him to Whitehorse.

“The woman deliberately drove into a light pole, the man continued to attack the woman and violently prevented her from getting out of the vehicle. The woman was able to get out of the vehicle and called for help while the suspect fled,” the press release states.

RCMP said the man was not known to the woman. Police are working to identify him.

“Police in the area conducted extensive patrols to search for the perpetrator and were unable to locate him,” the release said.

“We encourage the public to remain vigilant and invite anyone with information about this or other crimes to come forward.”
