Bomb scare in Limerick city housing estate leads defense forces to defuse suspicious device

Defense Force bomb disposal experts have now reopened an area of ​​a Limerick city property where a suspected explosive device was found.

Earlier on Friday, bomb disposal experts from the Defense Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to a request for assistance from An Garda Síochána in Carew Park, Southill.

The area has been cordoned off outside of a property for investigation and a cordon has been erected for the safety and protection of residents in the area.

Following an assessment of the device by the EOD team, it was secured at the site and the scene was handed over to Gardaí.

“This operation has now been completed and the scene has been reopened to the public,” a Defense Force spokesman said.

Gardaí made a statement to Limerick Live on Friday saying: “Gardaí attended the scene following reports of a fire damage incident involving a car at a property in Southill.

“The incident occurred in the early hours of October 18th. The investigation is ongoing.”
