Pitt hires replacement for fired athletic director: reports

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Allen Greene, a veteran college athletics administrator, will be named the University of Pittsburgh’s next athletic director on Friday, according to multiple reports.

Greene, 47, is an assistant athletic director and chief operating officer at Tennessee and a former athletic director at Buffalo and Auburn. He also held positions at Ole Miss and Notre Dame.

He will replace Heather Lyke, who was fired last month by Pitt Chancellor Joan Gabel after seven years in the job.

According to his biography on the Tennessee athletics website, Greene graduated from Notre Dame with a degree in finance. He was an outfielder for the Fighting Irish baseball team and a ninth-round draft pick of the New York Yankees. He later received his master’s degree from

Indiana University South Bend campus.
