Serious injuries were reported following a crash on I-70 early Friday in Wyandotte County

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (WIBW) – A woman was seriously injured early Friday when the car she was driving crashed on Interstate 70 in Wyandotte County, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 5:15 a.m. Friday on eastbound I-70 about a mile east of the Interstate 635 interchange.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2016 Nissan Altima was eastbound on I-70 when it strayed onto the right shoulder, struck the side of a metal guardrail and overcorrected to the left, crossing all four lanes and striking a guardrail.

The driver, Stephanie Ontiveros, 20, of Independence, Missouri, was taken to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, for treatment of serious injuries. The patrol said Ontiveros was not wearing a seatbelt.

One passenger, Marianna Torres, 19, was reported uninjured. The patrol said Torres was not wearing a seatbelt.
