Harris wants to campaign with Obama

Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will both focus on an all-important swing state on Friday: Michigan.

Harris is traveling to Grand Rapids, Lansing and Oakland County for three campaign stops. Trump will also appear in Oakland County for a roundtable event and hold an evening rally in Detroit.

Michigan, along with other battlegrounds like Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, could easily decide the results of the 2024 White House race. Expect the Democratic and Republican candidates to tailor their campaigns to these states as the election comes to a close.

One evening after a pointed appearance at the Al Smith dinner, Trump did not name his joke writers – or praise their work. “I had a lot of people helping me, a lot of people,” Trump said during a friendly interview on Fox & Friends.

Trump also told his hosts that he “actually has a few people from Fox.” I shouldn’t say this, but they wrote a few jokes.”

He added: “I didn’t like most of them.”

Trump ended a friendly interview on Fox & Friends by telling the hosts that he would be meeting today with Rupert Murdoch – their big boss – about campaign coverage. Trump said he would tell Murdoch that he did not want to see negative ads or critical commentators on Fox in the final weeks of the campaign. “I will say, Rupert, please do it this way,” Trump said. “And then we’ll get a win, because I think everyone wants to get a win.”

Barack and Michelle Obama campaign with Harris in Georgia, Michigan

Former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will campaign with Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in two battleground states next week, the Harris campaign said Friday.

Barack Obama will meet with Harris for a campaign rally in Georgia on Thursday, October 24th. Michelle Obama will campaign with Harris in Michigan two days later on Saturday, October 26, marking the first day of statewide early voting in Michigan.

The campaign did not immediately provide further details, including the cities where the events took place.

It’s the first time that Michelle Obama – who addressed the Democratic National Convention in Chicago earlier this summer – has campaigned for Harris. And it will be the first time either of the Obamas has campaigned directly alongside Harris ahead of the Nov. 5 election.

Barack Obama returned to the campaign trail last week with a one-on-one campaign rally in Pittsburgh for Harris. The former president repeatedly criticized Trump in his speech, saying there was “no evidence that this man thinks about anyone but himself.”

And in earlier remarks at a Harris campaign office, Obama admonished black men for being reluctant to support Harris, suggesting that some are not behind her candidacy because she is a woman. He urged them to get off the sidelines and support Harris.

Former President Donald Trump used his spotlight at a Catholic charity dinner on Thursday to hurl insults and attacks at targets ranging from absent Vice President Kamala Harris to former New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio.

At the 79th Annual Al Smith Dinner, Trump drew some groans and boos from the white-clad audience, including what he called a “nasty” joke about the collapse of Harris spouse Douglas Emhoff’s first marriage. Trump attacked Harris on a variety of issues, from her late start in the race to the way she laughed.

Donald Trump is holding a rally in Detroit, Michigan on Friday.

Last week, Trump gave a speech to the Detroit Economic Club in which he laid out his agenda to raise tariffs as a way to support the auto industry but also criticized Detroit as a nationwide model.

Trump is also scheduled to appear in Oakland County, northwest of Detroit, on Friday. He is invited by a group called Building America’s Future to a roundtable event that will also include Republican Mike Rogers – who is vying against U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat.
