Man accused of firing shots and pistol-whipping a woman at the Lincolnton Dollar General

LINCOLNTON, NC (WBTV) – A man is accused of firing shots and pistol-whipping a woman inside a Lincolnton Dollar General.

Officers with the Lincolnton Police Department said they were called to the Dollar General on Center Drive around 4:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, for reports of shots fired inside the store.

When they arrived at the store, police said they found several women involved in a physical disturbance. They said during the incident a man went to his car, grabbed a handgun, returned to the store, fired several shots in the air and pistol-whipped a woman.

He then allegedly fled in search of food.

The man was identified as 28-year-old Tavaz Kaleb Brooks. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm within city limits.

He was also served with a warrant for his arrest for failing to appear in court on previous charges.

Brooks is being held without bail.
