The 95th Phillips’ Mill Art Show brings amazing images to new hope

NEW HOPE, PA – The 95th Phillips’ Mill Juried Art Show – considered the region’s most prestigious exhibition – runs through October 27 and features more than 650 works from Bucks County and the River Towns region’s vibrant artistic community.

The exhibit is located on River Road north of New Hope and is open daily from 1 to 5 p.m. It is the perfect destination for art-loving leaf peepers this fall season. The exhibition features works by more than 200 local artists and can also be viewed online at phillipsmill.org. Artists will be on hand to meet and greet guests, discuss their work, answer questions and share the joy of the show. New this year, tote bags featuring the 95th Anniversary Fair logo and signature image are available at the Mill for $24. Admission to the show is $6 for adults, $2 for students. Admission is free for Phillips’ Mill members and artists who have registered for the show.

Twenty-two artists received exhibition awards recognizing exceptional work, including awards for a watercolor painting, an interior scene, a still life, an abstract, paintings in the style of the Pennsylvania Impressionists, landscapes, scenic bridges, and African American history and culture, as well as five sculptor awards .

The 22 awards presented at the exhibition included the Patrons’ Award for Painting, won by Kate Wright of Ambler for her oil painting; Peter and the Wave, the drawing award; Pastel or printmaking received by Scott MacNeill of Lambertville for his pencil drawing “’55 Chevy in the City” (Lambertville, NJ); and the Sculpture Advancement Award, awarded to Susanne Pitak Davis, also of Lambertville, for her colorful papier-mâché “My Magic Pumpkin Ride.”

A special award was presented this year in memory of longtime Phillips’ Mill Community Association member, board member and volunteer Janet Hunt, who supported local artists for decades through her work at the Lambertville Gallery and the Juried Art Show at Phillips for over 30 years ‘Mill designed. The award was presented to Robin Crowley of Doylestown for her egg tempera portrait Jill (b. 1927).

“We are pleased to have increased the number of awards presented this year – a total of $13,000,” said Arts Committee Chair Dennis Riley. A complete list of honorees can be found on the mill’s website at phillipsmill.org.

This year’s exhibition opened with a special reception featuring Janine Dunn Wade of Doylestown, this year’s honored artist, and Donna Ruane Rogers of Frenchtown, whose painting “March Afternoon” was selected as the 2024 signature image, the artwork used for the exhibition’s marketing and promotion materials were used. Both women spoke of their pride in being honored by and being a part of the venerable Phillips’ Mill, the birthplace of Pennsylvania Impressionism
with William Lathrop, Daniel Garber, Edward Redfield, Fern Coppedge and their fellow artists
Friends who founded the organization in 1929.
