Stabbing suspect jumped from I-275 overpass before being arrested: police

TAMPA, Fla. – A stabbing suspect jumped from an Interstate 275 overpass before being arrested late Wednesday night, according to a news release from the Tampa Police Department.

When officers responded to a reported stabbing at the Hunters Village Apartments, 8500 Hunters Village Road, late Wednesday night, they found the victim, a woman, “with multiple injuries and significant blood loss,” police said.

She was taken to a nearby hospital by Tampa Fire Rescue as an emergency alert. Her condition was stable on Thursday.

Investigators quickly identified 31-year-old Thomas Sapp, who knows the victim, as a suspect, police said.

TPD officers working with the U.S. Marshals Task Force were investigating a possible whereabouts for Sapp late Thursday morning.

He was spotted just before 11:30 a.m. in a car on County Line Road over I-275

As officers worked to stop traffic, Sapp jumped from the overpass, landed on the highway and narrowly avoided being hit by a tractor-trailer, police said.

Sapp, who suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, is charged with attempted murder. His condition was stable on Thursday.
