47 missing New York children found in first child rescue operation

A “First Missing Children Rescue” helped reunite nearly 50 missing New York children with their families.

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) proudly announced this week that nearly 50 missing children have been found.

Officials announced that 47 children reported missing in Western New York have been found “through a first-of-its-kind missing children rescue operation” in New York.

The children were reported missing to the Amherst and Buffalo police departments.

All were found “through a unique collaboration” between the Missing Persons Clearinghouse at DCJS, the National Child Protection Task Force, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and law enforcement experts and private sector partners who came together to review cases in the Scott Bieler According to officials, it is a Child Advocacy Center at BestHelp in Buffalo.

“Every day, our Missing Persons Clearinghouse staff provide critical investigative support to local law enforcement agencies handling missing persons cases,” said DCJS Commissioner Rossana Rosado.

56 experts help find 47 children from Amherst and Buffalo

A total of 56 experts were divided into teams to search for 25 missing New York children. Their efforts were so successful that they handled an additional 25 cases.

The operations led to the discovery of 40 missing children. Seven more children were found this week. Three other cases are still under investigation.

In 2023, nearly 1,300 children were reported missing in New York State

According to New York state officials, 12,623 children were reported missing to police statewide in 2023. 94 percent were reported as outliers.

In 2023, police closed 12,689 cases involving children reported missing in 2023 or previous years. As of the end of 2023, there were still 1,320 active missing child cases nationwide.
