Dallas County Prosecutor Jeannine Ritchie Releases Statement on January 4th Shooting at Perry HS | Raccoon Valley Radio

Dallas County District Attorney Jeannine Ritchie recently released a report on the horrific events at Perry High School on January 4th.

Ritchie explains that the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has opened a case to review the details of the shooting. It was discovered that around 7:35 a.m. on the morning of January 4, 17-year-old Dylan Butler exited a school bathroom with a Remington 870 shotgun and began shooting at students and staff. Ritchie notes that an in-depth analysis was conducted using Butler’s written and spoken words, more than 180 interviews, electronic and social media data, and video evidence.

The press release concludes that Butler acted alone during the tragedy and there was no indication that anyone had prior knowledge of his plan. The shooting killed sixth-grader Ahmir Jolliff and long-time principal Dan Marburger and injured six others. Ritchie says her condolences go out to the families of those affected and that she takes responsibility for ensuring that individuals are held accountable for their actions.

She emphasizes the need for people to work together as a society to speak up when a situation seems uncomfortable and the importance of having loving support. Ritchie is committed to helping in any way he can to prevent shootings at all levels. To read the full press release, click here.
