Amazon’s God of War TV show reportedly appears to be heading in a “different creative direction” as the showrunner packs up his Leviathan ax and moves on to other things

The God of War TV series, which has been in the works at Amazon Prime Video for several years, is reportedly undergoing a personnel change in the writing team as the previous showrunner and a number of key producers have moved on to other things.

The collaboration between Amazon and Sony, confirmed in December 2022 via a handy tweet that followed numerous rumors, has been moving forward ever since, although it seems like this move could represent something of a fork in the road in terms of what it ultimately looks like when whatever it ultimately arrives at.

According to a report from Deadline, showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins as well as co-executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have left the project.

Sony and Amazon are looking to “hire a whole new writers’ room” for the series, which makes it seem like it’s still an idea that the two parties are keen to push through, with both reportedly having “a different creative direction” in mind is taken into consideration.

On the face of it, it doesn’t seem like this would be too sharp a split, or at least it’s being played that way, with one source sharing that the God of War scripts that Judkins, Ostby and Fergus had written were “written by both Sony and Sony.” were also praised by Sony”. “Prime”.

The blurb originally given for the show began with the death of Kratos’ wife (very sadly), resulting in the bearded man having to undertake a dangerous journey with his estranged son to fulfill her final wish of having her ashes by a large one to throw peaks. “Kratos soon realizes that the journey is an epic quest in disguise,” he added, “one that will test the bonds between father and son and force Kratos to battle new gods and monsters for the fate of the world battle.”

It remains to be seen how much this new creative direction might change if it comes to fruition, but here’s hoping we get a story about a Norse mythological battle of bands that looks something like this.
