Richmond resident charged with assault over alleged child abuse

RICHMOND, Ind. – A Richmond resident has been accused of punching a 4-year-old girl in the face.

Allison Junkin, 25, was charged Wednesday in Wayne Circuit Court with assault resulting in bodily injury to a person under 14, a Level 5 felony punishable by up to six years in prison.

According to an affidavit, Junklin had been watching a friend’s daughter before daycare workers noticed a “handprint on the left side of (the child’s) face.”

Richmond police and Indiana Department of Child Services officials were subsequently notified.

When questioned by police, Junkin initially denied any knowledge of who hit the child.

After Junkin checked himself into the psychiatric ward at Reid Hospital, a second interview was conducted with police. The Richmond resident then reportedly admitted to slapping the girl after the child bit her arm.

According to Junkin, the child was beaten because of an accident while urinating when he was bitten and then slapped.

Junkin said he received permission from the child’s mother to physically discipline the girl. However, the mother reportedly denied this.

A hearing date in the Circuit Court case has apparently not yet been set.

In 2021, Junkin was convicted in Wayne Superior Court 3 of animal cruelty, a misdemeanor.
