Vettaiyan Extended First Week Box Office: Rajinikanth led the investigative drama which grossed Rs 207 Crore worldwide in 8 days

Directed by TJ Gnanavel and starring Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Manju Warrier, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati and others, ‘Vettaiyan’ ended its extended first week with a worldwide box office collection of nearly Rs 207 crore. Of the Rs 207 crore, around Rs 183 crore came from the extended four-day Dussehra weekend itself. The Rajinikanth film struggled to recover from the crash as it grossed just Rs 24 crore on weekdays. The film’s second weekend trend will determine how far it goes, but the chances of redemption are unlikely.

Vettaiyan grossed Rs 134 crore in its first week in India. Of this, the state of Tamil Nadu contributed Rs 80 crore. At one point, it looked like the investigative thriller would easily cross the Rs 100 crore gross mark in the Tamil state and might even cross Rs 150 crore. But that hasn’t happened yet. Even 100 Crore Rupees in the home state seems to be a difficult task from today’s perspective.

Internationally, Vettaiyan grossed around $8 million in its long weekend but failed to perform well on weekdays. In the end, it will make less than $10 million and maybe even less than $9 million. To put this number in perspective, Rajinikanth’s last film Jailer grossed over $23 million.
