Vehicle crashes 400 feet off Centerville Road, leaving one dead

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. – Cal Fire responded Thursday to a vehicle hanging over the edge of an embankment on Centerville Road, with one victim succumbing to his injuries.

Cal Fire said its crews, along with Chico police and Butte County Search and Rescue, responded around 6 p.m. Thursday to Cetnerville Road where a “vehicle over the edge” was reported.

Upon arrival, Cal Fire said they found an SUV approximately 300 to 400 feet down the embankment from Centerville Road.

The emergency services gained access to the victims inside the vehicle from below by using an existing channel.

Cal Fire said that while they were able to extricate people from the vehicle, one victim died while the other was transported to an area trauma center.
