ATP Stockholm quarterfinal predictions: Rublev vs Wawrinka

ATP Stockholm quarterfinal predictions: Rublev vs Wawrinka

The seventh day of the ATP Stockholm Open promises to be exciting, with a number of exciting quarter-final matches scheduled in the Swedish capital. As always, we at LWOT give our predictions for all four games, but who will secure a place in the semi-finals in Stockholm?

Many assume that Tommy Paul will emerge victorious in his quarter-final duel with Miomir Kecmanovic, but the direct record tells a different story. Surprisingly, Kecmanovic has won three of his four meetings, including the last encounter in the third round of the 2024 Australian Open. All of their matches have been played in either the United States or Australia, with Paul’s only win coming at the Western and Southern Opens last year . Despite the head-to-head matchup, the American has been stronger on hard courts this season, posting a record of 22-11 compared to Kecmanovic’s 12-15. While it could be a close fight, Paul’s form on hard courts gives him an advantage.

Tallon Griekspoor versus Casper Ruud

Head-to-head: Griekspoor 2-2 Ruud

The quarter-final duel between Casper Ruud and Tallon Griekspoor promises to be an exciting duel, as their direct record remains the same. However, Ruud has won the last two meetings, both on hard courts. Although the two-time Roland Garros finalist is known as a clay court specialist, he has performed well on hard courts this year, posting a solid 22-10 record. Griekspoor also had a respectable season with a record of 15-12 on hard courts and 27-23 overall. Ruud’s standout moments this year came on clay, where he reached the Monte Carlo final, won in Barcelona and reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros. As the Norwegian pushes to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals, he will be highly motivated to secure a quarter-final victory.

Prediction: Ruud in 2

Dominic Stricker vs. Grigor Dimitrov

Head-to-head: First meeting

Dominic Stephen Stricker undoubtedly has a bright future ahead of him, but his inconsistency on the ATP Tour this season has been evident, with a modest 7-6 record on hard courts. That doesn’t inspire much confidence ahead of his first meeting with Grigor Dimitrov. At the start of the season, Stricker showed his potential, but against an opponent like Dimitrov he might find it difficult to gain a foothold. The Bulgarian, meanwhile, had a solid year and reached the final of the Miami Masters, where he comfortably defeated Carlos Alcaraz. He also played a key role in Team Europe’s victory at the Laver Cup last month, defeating Ben Shelton in straight sets. Given Dimitrov’s current form and experience, he is the clear favorite to reach the semi-finals.

Prediction: Dimitrov in 2

Andrey Rublev vs. Stanislas Wawrinka

Head-to-head race: Rublev – Wawrinka 2:2

The quarterfinal match between Andrey Rublev and Stanislas Wawrinka is undoubtedly the most anticipated match of the group. The two first met in Chennai in 2016, where the three-time Grand Slam winner triumphed, but a lot has changed. Now, at the end of his career, the Swiss is struggling with form, posting a 3-5 record on hard courts this year. In contrast, Rublev is enjoying a good but inconsistent season, having won the Madrid Masters and reached the final of the Toronto Masters. With a strong record of 29-12 on hard courts in 2024, the Russian is the favorite, although Wawrinka’s experience could make it a closely fought battle.

Prediction: Rublev in 3
