Dennis Allen responds to Richard Sherman’s ‘fired’ comments | Saints

Dennis Allen disagrees with Richard Sherman.

At halftime of the New Orleans Saints’ 33-10 loss to the Denver Broncos, the former All-Pro cornerback said he thought the New Orleans players were competing against each other like they wanted their coach fired.

“I’m confused,” Sherman said. “I’m at a loss. They don’t want to attack, they don’t want to make plays, they are good players. Tyrann Mathieu is a good player and threw the easiest interception of his life.”

In Thursday night’s press conference, Allen responded to Sherman’s initial comment.

“I don’t agree with him,” Allen said.

However, the part of Sherman’s segment that went viral came later.

“I don’t understand,” Sherman said. “It seems like they want their coach to be fired. That’s the effort.”

The follow-up question to Sherman, who questioned the Saints’ efforts, was a direct question about whether the team is playing like the man Allen fired: Does he care about the state of his job?

“No,” Allen said.

Currently.

The Saints have lost five straight games and lost more than a handful of key players to injuries, something Allen pointed out several times in his postgame press conference, but also wanted to make it clear that he wasn’t citing the lineups as “excuses.” rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler started his second game Thursday, but backup Jake Haener finished the night throwing New Orleans’ only touchdown of the night.

“We have to step up and lead,” Allen said. “We are the only ones who can get us out of here. It’s not like there’s a draft in the middle of the season, there’s no one coming along that’s going to be our savior.”
