A 19-year-old driver is killed in a car accident

Unincorporated Central Broward, FL – A single-vehicle accident on Sunday, October 6, 2024 resulted in the death of 19-year-old Marcus Maurice Williams II of Fort Lauderdale. The fatal accident occurred near the 2200 block of West Sunrise Boulevard.

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene of the accident at approximately 4:44 p.m. Investigation revealed that Williams was driving a 2016 Honda Pilot eastbound on West Sunrise Boulevard when the vehicle left the lane twice, striking two raised concrete medians and damaging a pole-mounted traffic sign.

As the vehicle approached the Interstate 95 overpass bridge, it left the roadway and collided with two large palm trees, causing it to roll onto a raised grass median and strike another palm tree. Paramedics from Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue arrived at the scene where Williams was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe a medical event may have contributed to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
