Former British student convicted of racist attacks on student worker | News

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — The former University of Kentucky student accused in 2022 of attacking a Black student worker and using racial slurs was sentenced to one year in prison and 100 hours of community service, WLEX reported Thursday afternoon.

According to WLEX, 23-year-old Sophia Rosing issued a statement apologizing to Kylah Spring and the Black community for the attack.

Rosing pleaded guilty in August to four counts of fourth-degree assault, one count of disorderly conduct and one count of public intoxication. Her attorney, Fred Peters, said at the time that the guilty plea was the result of mediation between the two parties.

According to the Associated Press, an apparently drunk Rosing was caught on video entering a campus dorm where Spring worked at the front desk. When Spring asked if she was OK, Rosing punched Spring several times and kicked her in the stomach. Throughout the video, you can hear her using racial slurs and derogatory language.

Rosing was expelled and banned from the British campus following the incident.
