State officials send voting reminders

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – As Election Day approaches, state officials want to make sure everyone stays safe.

Both U.S. Attorney for the Western District Mark Totten and Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel explained our states’ election laws.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office sent a 14-page letter compiling new and existing laws that could come up on Election Day or early voting.

It included everything from gun laws to intimidation of voters and election officials.

“This guidance is critical to keeping us all on the same page and protecting the rights of Michigan residents in every community and ensuring a safe environment at every voting location across the state,” Nessel said.

U.S. Attorney for the Western District Mark Totten delivered a similar message.

“Voting is the cornerstone of American democracy. We are committed to ensuring that all eligible voters are allowed to vote and those who attempt to manipulate the election are brought to justice,” said Totten.

Totten also offered tips on how Michiganders can protect their vote and election integrity.

“Know when, where and how you will vote. Second, seek election information from trusted sources and third, report possible election crimes to the FBI,” Totten said.

On Thursday, Totten announced a hotline and website for people to file a complaint or share information about voting rights concerns. For more information click here.
