NDN Collective is calling for enhanced charges against a Box Elder man accused of stalking and assaulting a child

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Wesley Scott Cale Jr., 38, of Box Elder is charged with child abuse and simple assault following an incident in September, but NDN Collective and several community members are calling for higher charges.

Cale is accused of stalking and attacking a 13-year-old Box Elder child on Sept. 26, causing the teen to suffer a sprained maxillary sinus and a concussion.

According to NDN, Cale’s wife witnessed the crime, walked the child home, but did not call 911 despite being a mandatory reporter. She will not be charged.

The NDN collective gathered outside the Meade County Courthouse Thursday morning before Wesley’s arraignment to call for more serious charges to be brought against Wesley and for charges to be filed against his wife.

Members of the NDN Collective spoke, as well as parents of other children who were present at the alleged incident.

“We want to bring this attention to the community and call for action to become aware of this, so that we continue to keep this issue in the spotlight and demand accountability for attackers Wesley and Alicia Cale. And we want to make sure that the prosecutor does the right thing and that both the community and other community members here in Box Elder and Rapid City are held accountable,” said Eva Cardenas, organizing director for NDN Collective.

NDN Collective has filed a petition to upgrade Wesley’s simple assault charges to aggravated assault, in addition to the charges against his wife.

Wesley’s next court date is November 13th.

KOTA Territory News has reached out to the Meade County Prosecutor’s Office and Cale’s attorney and has not yet received a response.
