Chicago Police Board recommends firing officer over fatal shooting of Reginald Clay Jr.

The Chicago Police Board is recommending firing an officer for his actions in the fatal shooting of a man last year.

Reginald Clay Jr. was killed while running from police in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

Body camera video showed him pulling a gun from his waistband before he was shot.

On Thursday evening, the Police Department recommended firing Officer Fernando Ruiz for violating the department’s foot pursuit and de-escalation policies.

Ruiz can still request another hearing or arbitration.

Clay’s family and friends want the officer prosecuted.
