One person dead, suspect in custody after shooting in Lewisville – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

One person is dead and a suspect is in custody following a shooting Thursday afternoon in Lewisville.

Police were called to the 1800 block of Lakeway Drive in Lewisville around 11:30 a.m. after receiving multiple shots fired in a commercial area near a police station.

Lewisville police said officers were able to respond quickly on foot, take a suspect into custody and provide first aid to a victim. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police confirmed.

According to police, the suspect and victim knew each other.

They said the victim was a woman in her 30s and the suspect was a man in his 40s.

Police said they interviewed about 20 witnesses who were in the office, building or nearby when shots were fired.

They try to determine the nature and extent of the relationship between the suspect and the victim, as well as the motive. Her identity has not yet been revealed.

Because the shooting scene was near the police station, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) was called to assist in a search of a building and parked cars, according to Lewisville police.

“We brought the ATF just as a precautionary measure since the police are nearby and there are unknowns in this investigation and there are multiple vehicles involved. We wanted to make sure there were no bombs or additional weapons or anything like that,” said Officer Rachel Roberts, spokeswoman for the Lewisville Police Department.

Police said it was an isolated incident and there was no ongoing threat.
