The Marana Police Department is hosting a fall camp for children

MARANA, Ariz. (KGUN) — It’s fall break in the Marana Unified School District this week, so the Marana Police Department is hosting a week-long camp for children ages 10 to 13.

The free camp gives children a glimpse into law enforcement.

“We can show them a different side of law enforcement, that we’re here to engage with them and build those relationships and then also educate them on how to protect themselves, what we’re doing here and why we’re doing it “MPD said Community Resource Officer Molly Metz. “Then how they can help protect others too.”

Meetings included

  • MPD’s K9 unit
  • Pima Regional SWAT
  • Northwest Fire District
  • Internet security
  • Stranger Danger
  • The camp ends on Friday with a graduation ceremony

Fifth grader Damian Smart says it was a great time.
“My fall break at this camp was really fun,” Smart said. “There were all sorts of activities that helped me learn more about this police station. It’s really fun and I’ve learned a lot. We can also train a lot and play all sorts of fun games.”

MPD has hosted camps during fall and rodeo breaks. Officer Metz says they want to do something positive for the kids during recess. As this camp comes to a close, Officer Metz says all future camps will be shared on social media.
