The city of California is hiring a new police chief

CALIFORNIA, Missouri (KMIZ)

A town in Moniteau County has hired a new police chief.

California City Clerk Scott Jobe told ABC 17 News in an email Thursday that Scott John will be the city’s new police chief and Dale Harp will be a detective and sergeant. Both started on Monday. The city still has two potential officers in a police academy and is still looking for additional officers, Jobe wrote.

The city has been without a police chief since former Police Chief Daniel Hurt resigned from his position on August 23. After Hurt’s resignation, several police officers also left the company.

The Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office reached an agreement with the City of California last month and has been assisting the city since August. Jobe told ABC 17 News the sheriff’s office is still responding to calls within city limits.
