Jets superfan “Fireman Ed” creates stupidest fake drama after firing Robert Saleh

New York Jets drama seems to be commonplace these days. In the last few weeks alone, the Jets parted ways with Robert Saleh, lost two games in a row, hired Jeff Ulbrich as interim coach, demoted Nathaniel Hackett from his playing duties and traded for Davante Adams.

But the best drama of the season surrounding the Jets involved one of their most loyal fans (keyword: sarcasm).

Ed “Fireman Ed” Anzalone felt he had to be a major player in the Jets football drama by claiming the video board operator at MetLife Stadium was singling out him and his group of friends and limiting their screen time .

No, that’s not a joke. This is a real thing. And it keeps him on his toes. Not the fact that the Jets are on the verge of collapse, not that the Aaron Rodgers era in New York is faltering. No, the only thing that upsets him is his lack of screen time.

Things didn’t go well for the Jets in the 2024 season. Apparently they turned to Adams because he’s the person who can turn around an offense that’s clearly underperforming.

Perhaps the Jets are refusing to bring Fireman Ed and his posse to the big screen because there hasn’t been much to celebrate at MetLife this season. While he certainly acts as a hype man at critical moments, that’s probably not the most important thing the Jets organization is worried about.

I’m sure there is a small group of season ticket holders who miss seeing Fireman Ed on the video screen on third downs and after touchdowns. But honestly, there are bigger things the Jets care about.

They are in a “win now” situation and look set to do anything but win in 2024. Maybe once they start winning and playing at the level expected of them when they went to Rodgers, they’ll worry about little things like how many times Fireman Ed hyped up the Jets faithful.
