St. Martinville Deputy Police Chief Cody Laperouse was fired Wednesday after he allegedly threatened to kill a suspect involved in an investigation.

In a unanimous vote during a meeting Wednesday, the St. Martinville City Council fired Deputy Police Chief Cody Laperouse.

The police chief and two other officers have been called to testify and allege that Laperouse made the threat at a meeting at the St. Martinville Police Department on August 26 after the suspect – whom they identified only as Pat – made comments in an attempt to attack Laperouse kill mother.

Hoping to resolve the situation, Lieutenant Andrew Broussard took the suspect to the police station to speak with Laperouse, where things quickly spiraled out of control: “Deputy Chief Laperouse slammed the door and screamed, ‘My f***ing mama, my F *****’”.

Broussard said Laperouse then attempted to attack the suspect before stopping him and restraining him for nearly two minutes.

Laperouse then shouted at the suspect: “You fucking idiot. I’ll kill you,” Broussard told council members.

After Laperouse calmed down, Broussard said he was escorted to Police Chief Ricky Martin’s office, but Martin told him to leave the building. Laperouse was later demoted and placed on administrative leave.
