Washington County reports strong early voter turnout

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) – Early voting continues this week in Ohio.

Karen Pawloski, deputy director of the Washington County Board of Elections, said this was one of the busiest elections in years for early voting.

They have seen over 3,000 people vote early in person at the board office and have mailed more than 4,000 absentee ballots since early voting began last Tuesday.

Ultimately, Pawloski expects voter turnout this year to exceed 2020.

“In the 2020 election we had a 75% voter turnout,” she said. “I think we will significantly exceed that. So I’m expecting a voter turnout of almost 80 to 82%, which is wonderful. Election officials love to hear that.”

Pawloski said the mail-in ballot this year is two pages long, with one page covering the candidates and the other covering Ohio Issue 1. Voters must ensure they return both sides when they mail in their ballots.

Looking ahead to Election Day, Pawloski said voters in Warren need to be aware that their polling place for this election will be Lighthouse Baptist Church on State Route 339.

Pawloski says they also need more poll workers, especially Democrats. Anyone interested in becoming a poll worker should contact the Board of Elections at (740) 374-6828.

Early voting continues through the weekend before Election Day on November 5th.
