A Brooklyn Park woman is now facing charges after police say she stabbed a man in the neck outside a supermarket.

29-year-old Unique Pernell is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

According to the criminal complaint:

Witnesses said Pernell followed the victim just after 9:30 a.m. last Sunday at the convenience store in the 7400 block of Regent Ave. N. followed. She then came out of the store and “immediately” stabbed the man in the neck with a kitchen knife.

The stabbing occurred when the victim began speaking to two witnesses outside the store.

The suspect was seen wearing a red coat and flip-flops and walking to the Huntington Place Apartments, where police determined she lived, the complaint states.

The gun was lodged in the man’s neck and had to be surgically removed at North Memorial Health Hospital.

The motive for the crime is unclear.

One of the witnesses stated in the complaint that the crime was “strange because he did not believe that the victim and the defendant knew each other.”

The victim is recovering from the stabbing after surgery.
