WT Criminal Justice Career Fair is October 29th

CANYON, Texas – Students and community members seeking jobs in the criminal justice system, and not just law enforcement, can attend an upcoming career fair at West Texas A&M University.

The Criminal Justice Career Fair will be held on October 29th from 4 to 6 p.m. in the common area of ​​the Jack B. Kelley Student Center on WT’s Canyon campus.

Sponsored by the Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice in WT’s Terry B. Rogers College of Education and Social Sciences“The fair is intended to appeal not only to WT students but also to the general public,” said Jeanette Bissoni, lecturer in criminal justice.

“The career fair is open to anyone interested in a career in criminal justice, both students and the public,” Bissoni said. “I wanted to organize an event to increase networking between local criminal justice agencies and people interested in this career path, whether in the courts, corrections or law enforcement.”

Participating agencies are expected to include the Amarillo Police Department; the Liberal, Kansas, Police Department; Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Police; Texas Department of Public Safety; Randall County Sheriff’s Office; Randall County Juvenile Probation/High Plains Youth Center; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; the San Juan County, New Mexico Sheriff’s Office; the Canyon Police Department; the Midland Police Department; Kansas Highway Patrol; New Mexico Department of Game & Fish; the Drug Enforcement Administration; the Law Offices of Cody Pirtle; the Lubbock Police Department; the Texas Panhandle Paralegal Association; and the Amarillo and Plainview county probation offices.

“We are proud to not only train first responders and criminal justice professionals throughout the Panhandle, but also to connect our qualified students with criminal justice agencies,” said Dr. Brandon Bang, assistant professor and director of the criminal justice program. “Together, we are building stronger partnerships and improving public safety in meaningful ways across the region.”

The career fair should also appeal to those not considering jobs in active law enforcement, Bissoni said.

“These agencies often require support staff who are not civil servants,” Bissoni said. “They need communications specialists, nurses, social workers and more, so there are numerous opportunities for a variety of students and community members.”

WT’s Criminal Justice Program has recently received several national awards.

Its graduate program was ranked No. 3 in Texas and No. 17 in the country in the 2024 rankings from from US News and World Report.

It listed in the top 10 programs based on quality and affordability from Securitydegreehub.com in 2021.

The online criminal justice administration degree was ranked #1 by Best College Reviews in 2021 and one of the Best Online Programs and Best Online Programs for Veterans from US News and World Report in 2021.
