Oregon Ducks acquire fast-rising two-sport star

The Oregon Ducks hosted a star-studded crowd for their big win over the Ohio State Buckeyes over the weekend.

And these efforts are already paying off.

Since then, Oregon has secured a commitment from Tomuhini Topui, the country’s top defensive tackle in 2026, and signed four-star defensive lineman Viliami Moala from Bingham, Utah, from the USC Trojans.

But Dan Lanning and his coaching staff may not be done yet.

Prediction: McKay Madsen to Oregon Ducks

Fast-rising Clovis North (Calif.) linebacker/running back McKay Madsen took official visits to BYU and UCLA in the spring.

These two appeared to be the first two to compete for his services.

But that changed when the 6-foot-1, 220-pound athlete competed in the Nike Outdoor Nationals at Hayward Field in June.

Madsen, the California state champion in the shot put and discus, ranked sixth nationally — No. 1 among all juniors.

He also took the opportunity to make an unofficial football visit to Oregon.

Since then, the Ducks and Madsen have developed a strong relationship, culminating in a football scholarship offer and last weekend’s visit.

An elite athlete, the California product is currently ranked No. 1 in the country in the discus and No. 3 in the shot put.

On the football field, Madsen finished his junior season as an all-rounder, recording around 1,000 yards and 18 touchdowns (an average of 8.3 yards per carry) along with another 75 tackles and four interceptions on defense.

While the two-sport star plans to take another round of visits to BYU, Oregon and UCLA, the Ducks may have emerged as the heavy favorite thanks in part to their elite football and track and field programs.

However, BYU remains the biggest threat.

Of note, Madsen intends to serve a two-year LDS mission and will be part of the Class of 2027 wherever he commits.
